The answer is No! Chargify includes the usage of Avalara AvaTax Managed tax service with all of our plans.
Unfortunately, with Avalara AvaTax or Custom Taxes, you cannot configure individual taxes per product.
If your Subscriber has entered a VAT number that is preceeded by their country code, they will still be charged tax. For a Subscriber to enter a valid tax number, they must remove the country 2 character code at the front of the number.
SE112233445566 will not allow your customer to be tax-exempt. 112233445566 will allow your customer to be tax exempt.
Additionally, if dashes are included in the VAT number, they will need to be removed in order for the Subscriber to be tax exempt.
This can be found by navigating to the “Transactions” tab and choosing the dates for which you want to see data. Once you have the list filtered, select the “Export Current View” to produce a comma-separated file.
There will be a short wait while the file is created, and then you can download it and open it in your spreadsheet program. The column labeled “kind” (column L) will indicate if the transaction type is tax. You can sort or filter the document by “tax” in that column to get totals or individualized history.
This can be done by navigating to the “Customers” tab and editing the appropriate customer’s tax exempt property. By doing this the subscription attached to that customer will also be considered as tax exempt and will not include tax charges during billing processes.
