Merchants may now apply any coupon to an existing, live subscription via our admin UI! This much-requested feature allows you to offer one-time or recurring discounts to your existing subscribers.

This option was confusing and unclear, so we've removed it and instead offer the most expected behavior by default. This means that coupon discounts are "carried forward" if a coupon is applied at signup BUT a free trial period exists.

Can you add coupon's without having the coupon field enabled on signup? I don't want the coupon field on signup because I feel like it's a barrier to signing up, but I'd still like the ability to add a coupon to a user's account manually in the admin panel.
I don;t see a way to specify which product the coupon applies to. We have multiple products/prices. How do I apply the coupon to a particular product?
Currently, coupons are set up scoped to a product family, so they can theoretically be added to a subscription to any of your products in that family. Limiting which products a coupon can be applicable to is on our roadmap.
So my specific issue is that I have a guy on a $49 subscription product and I want to drop him to $29 ... should I apply the $20 off coupon? It seems like it should be yes, but please confirm! Thanks.
Larry, if you know who it is and it's a one-time thing why don't you just credit his account $20? Coupons seem more like the kind of thing you'd want to use if you're giving out discounts to random customers on a regular basis, is that what you're doing?
Larry, if you want a recurring $20 discount, that's only possible with coupons. You can create a $20 off coupon that recurs forever, not advertise the code, then just apply it to the subscription using this new feature.
If you want a one-time discount, you can apply a credit like Anthony suggests.
FWIW, we do have plans to pull out the coupon functionality in to generic "discounts", that you can use to provide price adjustments to any subscription without first having to set up a coupon code.
+1 on more flexibility for limiting how Coupons can be applied.
I may provide a coupon to a specific person for their initial signup and don't want anyone else to use it, and I can't achieve this if the person decides to share it with their friends.
It's most probably not that likely to happen, but I prefer a system that inhibits abuse as opposed to relying on honesty!
